DAVID FAIRMAN'S STORY
My Story: And How I Learnt the Strategies I use today
Here I was working in a small studio in London with a few very small clients..and only charging £150 a day...Then one Sunday a terrible thing happened
It was a beautifully sunny afternoon when I took a horse-riding lesson. Suddenly out of the blue the horse in front of me suddenly kicked straight onto my leg. My leg was shattered, and seriously broken. In fact it was as shattered as my life was at this point. It was so badly broken, that they had to operate and pin the leg with a long plate.
This resulted in six months off work. With no insurance for any kind I soon got heavily into debt.
So ,eventually six months later I’m recovered and back in my studio, after my worst year ever. I thought well, I was at least lucky ,not to lose my leg. With just two small clients and even fewer prospects I was really not sure about the way forward. Broke and uncertain about my future I realised I HAD to up my game. I needed to quickly learn some new tools to get myself better fees with bigger clients.
So I decided, I had to re-brand myself. I would have to adopt some new tools in my business to create a new offer and value for my clients. I could just stay where I was with a few low paying clients or I could get some new training, and then yes I realised, this is what I had to do. But how can I do this? I realised I couldn’t do this on my own. I needed some help in this endeavour. I then re-revisited some of those great designers, photographers and filmmakers of the day that I'd appreciated and that I now needed to learn from. These really successful designers had all been offering unique features to their clients. I then realised, I too had too to be different from all those other guys out there. I then got really busy learning these new tools and strategies. And then pretty soon my new branding was getting some amazing results.
In a relatively short period, I had transformed my business. I had increased my rates by an amazing percentage. Now, new clients really liked what I was offering them. Soon, I was working for some really big advertising brands.

And now instead of £ 150, I was charging £ 3,000 a day. I had re-branded and transformed my business and moved up the ladder to much higher levels, and created the business and lifestyle of my dreams working for clients such as British Airways, Lever Brothers, BT, Rover Cars and Carlsberg
